Thank you for joining us on our 2012 "Best Of "show!!!  It is hard to believe that another full year of games has passed, and in this episode, we discuss the best, and the worst games we played in 2012.  The gamers three, go over their lists of games they played, and pick their favorite handled, biggest disappointment  platform exclusive, and Game Of The Year.  We couldn't do the last show of the year without our crowd favorite "Triple Barrel Shotgun" round.  This weeks question comes from fellow podcaster and gamer, Mike Buffington, from the Technical Earth Syndicate podcast.  Mike asked us "If you could go back to a certain time in gaming, when would it be?"  We would like to know what your favorite moments in your gaming history are, so please leave us a message either here or on our facebook.

Episode 12: SCORE!!!

Welcome back to another exciting episode of the First World Podcast.  Tonight's episode marks our three month anniversary, which is a life time in middle school romance years.  Dan and his lovely wife, Steph, go really fast with Sonic, and some of his closest Sega friends.  Heath shoots a lot of MFers in the face, and is a bit ashamed by liking it.  Greg goes back and plays some hits from last year, including Mario, and Deus Ex.  We all have a lively, stream of consciousnesses conversation about music in video games.  And we finish up the episode with the ever popular Triple Barrel Shotgun question, which this we was;  Which 3 video game character would you like to go to lunch with?  Let us know in the comments below.

Episode 10: Wii for U, and U for Wii

On November 18th, 2012, Nintendo changed the face of the industry once again with the launch of their new home console, the Wii U.  With pre-orders in hand, Heath and Dan, are the first in line at their local GameStop to get their hands on the new hotness.  This cast follows the discussion on owning a Wii U for the first 30 hours, unfortunately, without Greg, who was at band practice.  We talk about the system's launch, the games we got, and the Wii U's functionality, spoiler for you, it isn't the Netflix app. We finish the episode with the Triple Barrel Shotgun question, what is your favorite hair in a video game?  We would like to know.

We now have had more time with the Wii U, so if you have any questions, or would like to talk with us about the Wii U (or anything else for that matter) please email us at firstworldpodcast@gmail.com or message us at https://www.facebook.com/FirstWorldPodcast.  If you were lucky and picked up a Wii U, you can friend Heath and Dan by adding their Nintendo ID's Tizona and Haldrich (guess who is who).  Please subscribe and rate us at iTunes, and/or Podbean, and follow us on Twitter @1stWorldPodcast.

Episode 9: Digital Pizza

This week, Dan throws the group a curve ball and we change the topic of the show, 10 minutes before we recorded the episode.  To make up for the change in plans, he warms our hearts with some pizza!!! (it was half and half for all of you analog lovers out there)  Greg completes Uncharted 3, while the revolutionary war seems to have him stumped in Assassins Creed 3.  Heath completes Resident Evil 6, and will not speak of it again... Until next week.  Dan kicks it up a notch and plays 3 power house titles, Code of Princess, Assassins Creed 2, and Paper Mario: Sticker Star.  We continue our conversation to our feature topic with Dr. Dan on Digital Distribution. The Triple Barrel Shotgun question of the week is "Which 3 game franchises would you bring back from the dead?"

Episode 8: Paper Assasins

Podcast Powered By Podbean

In this weeks episode, Dan, Greg, and Heath discuss the history and the importance of the 2D side scroller.  Heath goes retro, and plays one of his all time favorite games, Super Mario World, on the original Super Nintendo.  Heath also continues deeper into Artorias of the Abyss, literally, and gets to experience a huge chunk of it.  Dan Jumps into Assassins Creed, instantly jumps out and jumps into Assassins Creed 2.  Dan also finally finishes Last Story, so every body should send him a big congratulations.  Greg starts to explore the world of Assassins Creed 3, but gets distracted by one of his favorite games series, Uncharted (3).

Our discussion of 2D side scrollers takes all of us on a trip down memory lane, and gives us hope for the future of gaming.  We finish up with our Triple Barrel Shotgun question of the week, which is ;  What is your 3 favorite side scrolling characters?  Please let us know, email us at firstworldpodcast@gmail.com.

The Musical Stylings of First World Podcast

One of the most fun parts of editing and creating this podcast is adding the music into the bumpers. Finding and recording the right song for the moment is one of the hardest, but more creative aspects of making this podcast. Now, by popular demand...of Threeyees, and I'm sure others were thinking it, here are the songs (or at least the games they are from) used in each episode so far. From now on I'll try and make sure the songs are in the show notes of each episode. Enjoy!

First World Podcast theme - Wind up dead in a Camaro - Bald Eagle

Cookies and Beercast:
My first time editing so both bumper songs are just songs by my old band Witch's Hat.

Neon Boogaloo:
Song 1: VVVVVV - Pushing Onwards (3DS)
Song 2: Double Dragon: Neon - Mango Tango/Neon Jungle (PS3)
Song 3: Sonic the Hedghog 2 - Metropolis zone - (Genesis)

Song 5: Mario Kart 7 - Rock Rock Mountain (3DS)
Song 6: Kirby's Dream Collection - Gourmet Race to Green Greens: Chamber Music (Wii)

Spoil(er)s of War(craft):
Song 1: XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Amiga, PSX, PC)
Song 2: Metroid 2:  Return of Samus  (Gameboy)
Song 3: Last Story - Battle Music (Wii)
Song 4: Final Fantasy VII - One Winged Angel (PSX)
Song 5: Final Fantasy VI - Wild West (SNES)

Song 2: Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow  (DS)

Song 3: Cthulu Saves the World - Battle Music (PC)

PO-V-MO: Red Edition
Song 1: Liberation Maiden - Tokyo (3DS)

Episode 7: Po-V-Mo: Red Edition

Podcast Powered By Podbean

Gotta catch the newest episode of the First World Podcast. This week we talk about some great games we are playing, including Dark Souls DLC, a crazy E-shop game from Grasshopper, and in depth with the ultra cool Xcom: Enemy Unknown. Than we slide into our impressions of our first ever chance to play a Wii U in the wild.

Our Feature discussion is on mobile gaming and how super effective it has been in the world of portable gaming and beyond.

Finally we use our Triple Barrel Shotgun attack to talk about some super moves we wish we had in real life!

Oddly, for all the Pokemon references in this description, we don't talk about Pokemon at all.

First World Podcast ep 5: Pocket Power

Podcast Powered By Podbean

Welcome back to another episode of the First World Podcast.  In this weeks episode, Dan and Heath spend a Sunday morning talking about the legacy that is portable gaming.  We start at it's birth in the 70's, and follow it to present day glory.  If you don't have nearly as much time for sit down console/pc games, then this episode is for you.

We also spent some time talking about an analog program called Munchkin.  We don't feel that we could have done a great job explaining the game, so we give you all this video to give you a deeper look at the game.

I think this is the episode of Radio Free Nintendo that has the portion on the Game and Watch series.  Give it a listen, it is a great podcast.

Tune in next week where we will be having our Halloween celebratory Zombiecast!!!  Feel free to send us links to cool games that are horror focused games at firstworldpodcast@gmail.com.  As always, subscribe to us on iTunes, or subscribe to us on Podbean.  Thanks for listening!!!

Super Clark Bros.

On Christmas, 1991, my older brother had asked for and received an Nintendo Entertainment System. From that day forward, my love affair with video games began, in large part with my brother Michael leading the way. From letting me hold the second controller and “play” Super Mario Bros along with him, to helping me through my very first RPG (Phantasy Star 3), and even when he accidentally erased my Pokemon Blue save file, he has been a part of my gaming upbringing.
Michael passed away in 1999 at 18 in an accident. Today would have been his 32nd birthday. As today wore on, and I played video games like I always do, my thoughts turned to him and the fact that if not for him, I wouldn't be a lot of things. Musician, devoted brother to our little sister, beard enthusiast. But most of all, without his influence I may never have found comfort and camaraderie in video games. I'll always have him to thank for the. Miss you bro.
